June 13 - Friday the 13th!

During Explorations Division 7 made a Newspaper Dowel Structure (we actually had to start over a few times!).  Through this project and our structure unit we had a lot of fun and also learned a lot,,,
- the foundation or base is very important before you try to build it high
- tape is heavy and when we just added more it did not stabilize our structure
- some of the longer dowels were not strong enough and we had to cut them
- we made both posts(vertical) and beams (horizontal) to make our structure stronger
- if we worked together and communicated with each other we were much more successful
- a triangle is the strongest shape - for our newspaper dowel structure we made two triangular prisms as the base
- we also looked at many famous structures in the world both man-made and ones we find in nature e.g.) beaver dam

We worked very hard this week on our Father's Day cards - we hope you like them and treasure what they have written.  The button blankets are something we made with Mrs. Crook.  She taught us that Aboriginal People gave button blankets on special occasions or when someone accomplished or did something important.  The students wanted to give them to their Dads or someone special in their lives.

Today was a very crazy day and with the uncertainty of whether school will be in session or not I have send home most of the students belongings.  We tried to do it in two different bags, one with stuff we are done with for the year and the other one with their pencil boxes and books that we would use if school resumes so the children would need to bring this bag back (hopefully this week!)  I did not send home your child's memory books in hopes that we can finish them up, if not they will get them at the beginning of next year as they will report back to my class anyways.  A BIG thank you to Cole's mom who treated the children with ice cream at the end of the day!

Thank you for your support and kind words through out the year and especially now in this very difficult situation we are all going through.   I have really enjoyed working with your children and am keeping my fingers crossed that we can finish off at least the last week of school together.
