May 16th
Our field trip to the ACT was enjoyed by all. Thank you so much to all our parent drivers and volunteers -
Ms Exner, Ms Pouznar, Ms Carpenter, Ms Mohammed, Ms Adams, Ms Thiessen, Ms Hall, Ms Dulay, Krystel's Grandma, Ms Hall/Ms Godin.
I hope all you Moms and Grandmas liked your Mother's Day gifts. The students worked very hard on their projects and were very proud of them.
On Thursday we did The Marshmallow Challenge! WE LOVED IT BUT IT WAS FRUSTRATING AND HARD BUT FUN! We used all the knowledge we have learned about structures to try to build the tallest free standing structure. The task is simple: In 18 minutes teams must build the tallest free-standing structure out of 20 sticks of spaghetti, one yard of tape, one yard of string and one large marshmallow. The marshmallow needs to be on top.
Next Friday, Fairview will be hosting their first ever Fine Arts Gallery Walk. Each student will be choosing one piece of art work they want to feature. Your child may be asking to bring something they made back to school. These art pieces must be returned by Wednesday so they can prepare it for the show. Thanks for your help and feel free to also do a tour on Friday of Fairview's amazing artists. If you can come please sign in at the office and pick up a special sticker so that we can easily identify parents in the building.
The Poetry Recital is also coming up on Friday, May 30th. The grade 2 students will be presenting a poem with a partner and Grade 3 will do their's individually. Grade 3's had a choice of choosing a poem or writing their own. You are hoping that you can attend the recital which will be starting at approximately 10:40.
Students of Division 7 are all getting very good at adding with/without re-grouping. This week we made some math flowers to show off our good math skills!
Unit 18 in Spelling is a review so we have decided to do this over two weeks. We won't have the test until next Friday. Over the weekend a good practice would be to go on Spelling City (link on this blog) to review the words.
Thursday we all got new Just Right Reading Books. Also don't forget to go on Raz Kids for extra reading fun!
Our Scientists this week have been Viktor, River, Geena and Jaden! As usual we learned lots from these experiments.
Tuesday is a Pro D. Day so school will be back in session on Wednesday. Hope you have a fabulous long weekend!
